God answers when we seek Him

When we go through a crisis, as Christians we learn to seek God. As we seek God, we must also learn to receive our answer. We must learn to hear what God says about our problem.

Jehoshaphat had a serious problem. Instead of giving in to fear, he determined in his heart to seek God. It should be no surprise that God was happy to respond. “.. He rewards those who earnestly seek him. ” (Hebrews 11:6, NIV84)

When Jehoshaphat prayed. God answered.

” For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon you.” All the men of Judah, with their wives and children and little ones, stood there before the LORD. Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jahaziel son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite and descendant of Asaph, as he stood in the assembly. He said: “Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the LORD says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s. Tomorrow march down against them. They will be climbing up by the Pass of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the gorge in the Desert of Jeruel. You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the LORD will give you, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the LORD will be with you.’ ” ” (2 Chronicles 20:12–17, NIV84)

The answer came through a prophetic word. God spoke.

Your answer may come through a word in the Bible that comes alive. You may find faith to believe a promise of God. Perhaps the answer could come through the word of encouragement of a Christian friend. Perhaps God will speak in a dream or a vision. Perhaps someone will come and say they have a Word from the Lord for you.

Notice that the prophetic word already spoke about the character of God already established. Jehoshaphat was being reminded that God was bigger than the challenge. God would fight. Jehoshaphat was reminded to stand with the Lord and there would be victory.

Standing with God is a demonstration of faith and trust in God. Jesus said, “By standing firm you will gain life.” (Luke 21:19, NIV) When we have stood with no strength of our own, trusting God’s words in our lives, and waiting expectantly in faith for God’s victory, we are giving glory to God.

Today, make a stand in the challenge. “no weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and this is their vindication from me,” declares the Lord. ” (Isaiah 54:17, NIV84) Speak God’s promises over your situation. Fight with the promises of God. God is good and loving in all circumstances.
