Child-like

Seeing the reality of the Kingdom of Heaven is the desire of every one who has a relationship with Jesus. When we became born again, the yearnings of God became planted in us to see the Kingdom established in our life and in our world. Jesus taught about how to enter the Kingdom and experience the reality of the Kingdom. “At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” He called a little child and had him stand among them. And he said: “I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. ” (Matthew 18:1–4, NIV84)

Jesus taught that to enter or come into the Kingdom, to see the reality of God’s Kingdom we must become like a little child. A child has a relationship with its Father. We must have a relationship with God, our Father. A child receives correction. A child receives instruction. A child knows that it does not have the answers. A child will obey. A child will seek their father for care and provision. A child will trust that what their father says is true. A child will go with the father. A child will rest in the father’s presence. A child will dream and imagine about the future. A child will play with the father.

When I look at people who are trying to experience the Kingdom, many times they do not want to become childlike. We struggle obeying God’s word. Perhaps we are to forgive someone and we struggle with that. Perhaps we struggle about talking about other people with gossip. We find reasons to justify our disobedience rather than to obey.

We struggle receiving correction. We get offended when someone wants to bring guidance and correction to our lives. At the place, we miss the Kingdom. We struggle trusting the God will provide. We look for answers based on our own strength and our own understanding. We squeeze time in for God at the end of the day when we are worn out and tired.

Everything in life is a decision. When faced with a need, we choose to give it to God or we choose to find our own answers. When faced with a temptation, we choose to obey or disobey. When a word of correction comes, we can choose to submit or we can choose to run away. Each choice made as a child who surrenders to a loving Father is an opportunity to gain a deeper revelation of the Kingdom.

If I choose to trust God with my need, I now have the opportunity to experience God’s care for me. If I choose to obey God and forgive my brother, I now have the opportunity to experience the restoration power of the Kingdom and see the love of God heal wounded hearts. If I choose to rest in the presence of God, I have an opportunity to experience God speaking to me. If I know I do not have all the answers, I will choose to spend time getting knowledge and instruction in the Word. The power of God’s Word now can establish the Kingdom reality in my life.

Perhaps if we became more aware of the need to respond as God’s child to the situations around us, we would make more childlike decisions and thus see and experience more of the Kingdom of God in our lives.
