More Drinking

I love to drink Jesus. He is the source of Life, Love, Joy, Peace, Righteousness, Holiness, Grace, Mercy, Power, and Authority. Jesus is my Savior and He is my Lord. He empowers me to become all that I am to become. He heals, He prospers, He strengthens, and He restores. Drinking Jesus brings me to a place of intimacy. As I drink, I become one with Him.

Therefore, with so much at stake, learning how to drink is very important. If I don’t know how to drink, then much of what God intends for me remains out of my reach. Drinking Jesus is possible. “Jesus said to them, “You will indeed drink from my cup.” (Matthew 20:23, NIV84) Drinking is commanded. “Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. ” (Matthew 26:27–28, NIV84)

Drinking begins with a desire for Jesus and it begins with the cross of Christ. “Jesus said to them, “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him. Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me. ” (John 6:53–57, NIV84)

We begin drinking when we come to the cross. When we come to the cross we begin to clearly see our sin. We see our need for a Savior. We see our need for the blood. As we kneel before the cross, that blood covers us and Jesus says “Drink deeply of my blood”. The life of Jesus is in the blood. The blood represents the life and the dna of Jesus. We kneel and we see the great love of God and we drink the blood and we drink the life. As we take Jesus into us, that blood is a blood transfusion. It goes deep into us and begins to transform us and our dna. We begin to shed the old man and become the new life in Christ. It starts by drinking.

We continue to drink every time we pray as Jesus prays. “He went away a second time and prayed, “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.” ” (Matthew 26:42, NIV84) Every time I seek to obey the Word of God, I drink. Every time I lay aside my will, my comfort and my desire, I drink. As I drink, I continue to be transformed. As I drink, the life of Jesus empowers me to obey the Word of Jesus. I cannot obey without the life of Jesus.

As I drink Jesus, springs of overflowing life are created in me. Life flows from me. There are many who are walking in death. The life of Christ flowing in me, may be the first taste and drink of Christ they will have. “But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him. For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. To the one we are the smell of death; to the other, the fragrance of life. And who is equal to such a task? ” (2 Corinthians 2:14–16, NIV84)

As I drink Jesus, I become a fountain for others to drink. I become a place where people can encounter the life of Christ. As people come, I keep drinking. As I keep drinking, I point them to the cross. When they come to the cross, they begin their own drinking journey. “Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” ” (John 4:13–14, NIV84)

I drink as I read the Word. I drink as I meditate on the Word. I drink as I obey the Word. I drink as I listen to the people of God and the testimonies of Jesus. I drink when I become hungry for new experiences with Jesus. I drink when I just hang out in the presence of God. I drink when I hang out with other Christians who are drinkers. I drink when I surrender to God. I drink when I allow others to drink from the well in my life. I drink when I seek God with all that is in me. I drink when I listen to God in dreams and visions. I drink when I receive the blessings of God. I drink when I climb the mountains and overcome challenges. I drink when I walk through the valleys. I drink continuously and say “LORD – your will be done!”

I drink, and people begin to see Jesus. I drink and there is less of me and more of Him. I drink and God looks and says to me, “You are my son.” “He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life. He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son. ” (Revelation 21:6–7, NIV84)
