God’s Champions

Each day finds a champion is being creating by the power of God’s Word. A champion is someone who has defeated all opponents in a competition or series of competitions. A champion is a fighter, a warrior, a victor and an overcomer. A champion is revealed by their victories. A champion is made by their heart and their dedication. We live in a world that is looking for champions. We want to find someone who says “This is way. Walk in it.” We watch American Idol. We look for “change we can believe in” with political candidates. We seek inspiration for better days.

Champions are made in the womb of obscurity. They become champions because they do what no one else will do. When the circumstances are right and the day of battle arises, the champions fight is a reflection of the daily battle of discipline and endurance that gave him or her the strength to fight.

Peter wrote about the heart of a champion. “His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. ” (2 Peter 1:3–4, NIV84) We become champions in this world by living by the power of God’s life in us. We start the championship journey by believing God and His Word. We grow as we believe that the promises of God are true for us. As we believe, our nature is transformed and we become champions.

Every Christian is called to become a champion. The heart of a champion was implanted in you when you became a believer in Jesus Christ. Your overcoming of the world brings inspiration and hope to this generation. Your life and reflection of the power of God and His Love, testifies to the reality of God.

Every champion must train. Christian champions train daily. “For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. ” (2 Peter 1:5–7, NIV84) Our faith beginnings empower us to seek the goodness of God and to express God’s goodness to the people around us. We seek to grow through study of God’s Word. We gain knowledge as we listen to Pastor’s and teachers. We start by exercising self –control and gaining victory in our own lives. We become temples of the living God. We continue and persevere in championship training. We endure. We become godly examples to the people around us. We see people through the eyes of God and we learn to love those who are struggling. We embrace people with the Love of Christ. We learn that our lives have their greatest meaning when we lay them down for others. We gain victory over the world by love. We become agents of love and the church grows.

Our training will teach us the fullness of the character of God. We will become Christ like. We will be healed and become empowered to share healing with others. We will be forgiven and become empowered to forgive others. We will prosper and become empowered to share prosperity with others. We will become whole and be empowered to share our lives with others. We will be taught and them empowered to teach others.

When we have become tools of love, we are empowered to touch a lost and dying world with the love of God. We can fulfill the great commission. We are empowered to preach, to heal and to deliver. We are champions. We set the captives free and bring hope to the world. We become effective Christians. “For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. ” (2 Peter 1:8, NIV84)

Could it be that the church is ineffective in the world today because individual believers will not pursue the discipline of training for their Championship calling? Could it be that the world is looking for champions with the heart of God to proclaim God’s love? Could it be that the world is looking for champions filled with the light of God to dispel the darkness? It is time for Champions to rise up and conquer.
