The day of evil

The day of evil. Many times it comes suddenly and without warning. The day of evil is a day, a season when the things that do not agree with God’s Kingdom come against you.

The Kingdom of God is “righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 14:17). It is about the power of God being established (1 Cor 4:20). The Kingdom is the rule and the reign of God. Thus the day of evil is the time and the season where you are attacked and assailed by that which is not following the rule and the reign of God. The evil day appears to be the day when you cannot see God’s power but you clearly see the powers of hell. The evil day is a day of war. It the day where we must stand and right and declare the Kingdom of God.

The evil day may come suddenly like those who have just experienced the worst earthquake and tsunami. It can come without warning when a loved one is in a car accident. The evil day may come through betrayal and false accusations. It may be the loss of a job. It may be a horrible medical diagnosis. The enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy. The day of evil comes when become the focus of the enemy. That day comes and exposes in us what we truly believe about God and ourselves.

Job experienced the day of evil; So did David, Jeremiah, Jesus, and Steven. To the heroes of faith, it was a day of flames, sword, lions, battles stoning and death (Hebrews 11:33-38). It was their faith, their knowledge of God, their ability to pray and seek God that empowered them to conquer, walk in the promises of God, shut the lions mouths and turn weakness into strength.

God’s command in the day of evil is to stand (Ephesians 6:9). “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” (Ephesians 6:10–18, NIV)

Today is the day to prepare for the day of evil. Today is the day when we learn truth and focus on the Word of God. Today is the day when we experience the power of God, when the Good News is applied to our life. Today is the day when we learn to discern truth from a lie. Today is the day to appropriate the promises of God and make them real in your life.

What are you doing today to prepare for the evil day? Are you studying the Word of God? Are you praying? Are you in fellowship with other believers? Are you obeying the Word of God so that the blessings of God can strengthen you? Is Jesus your Lord? Does Jesus have authority to rule and reign and establish His Kingdom in your life? Are you living for Jesus and pursuing holiness and righteousness? Are you forsaking sin and establishing the Kingdom in your life? Are you living in a submitted and serving relationship to your church and your pastors?

If you cannot answer yes to these questions today, then you are in a place where you may find yourself unable to stand when the day of evil comes. Refocus your life. If you cannot establish the rule and the reign of God in your life today, you will not be able to stand in the day of evil tomorrow.

Your purpose in Christ is to know who you are in Christ and to stand with Christ in the day of evil. Then you will be an overcomer.
