Receiving a miracle

Do you have a need? Is there something in your life so wrong that you know in your heart, that only a miracle can help? Is there a place in your life where you know things could be better but you have no idea how to change? There is an answer.

“As Jesus and his disciples were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed him. Two blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was going by, they shouted, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!” The crowd rebuked them and told them to be quiet, but they shouted all the louder, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!” Jesus stopped and called them. “What do you want me to do for you?” he asked. “Lord,” they answered, “we want our sight.” Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him. ” (Matthew 20:29–34, NIV)

They were blind men. I can only imagine that they sat together day in and day out. They were likely beggars. They were poor. They were rejected. They had no value and could hold no job. It is likely that sitting where they did each day, they heard the news. They probably heard the talk of Jesus as He moved from town to town. They probably heard about the stories of Jesus who healed the lame and gave hope to the broken hearted. Over the weeks, as those two blind people kept listening, they probably talked about Jesus. They wondered what they would do if Jesus came to their city. What would they do if Jesus walked down their road?

As the weeks passed and they kept hearing the stories of how Jesus touched people. These two blind men probably became hungry for God to touch them too. They believed that God was real. They believed that Jesus did heal. They believed that their lives could change with an encounter with Jesus. One day, that chance arrived. Jesus came walking down their road. They had already decided that they were going to do all they could to get their encounter with Jesus.

Jesus came down their road in the midst of a large crowd. There was noise everywhere. There was pushing and jostling. The men wanted God’s attention. They stood and at the top of their voices shouted out to Jesus “Have mercy on us!” Jesus did not hear that first cry. The crowd looked at these men who had sat there blind and begging for years. The crowd said “who do you think you are…. Be quiet!”. Those blind men looked at each other and then they looked at the crowd, they looked at Jesus and looked at each other for encouragement and strength. Together they shouted even louder – “Jesus Have Mercy!!!”

Now they had the attention of Jesus. Jesus paused and healed them. Those two men, bling beggars became transformed into two disciples whose testimony of the grace, mercy and healing power of God would touch the lives of millions.

Sometimes in life, you must ignore the crowd of people. Sometimes you must start to believe the stories of those who come to you and tell you that Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Sometimes, you must begin to believe that today you will step away from the crowd and pursue Jesus with all your strength.

Every time someone pursues God with everything in them, they encounter God and their lives are changed. Are you ready?
