Who is Jesus

by Ingrid Hansen

Who is Jesus? I hear many speak of Jesus as their best friend. Many speak of Jesus with a casualness of friendship as if Jesus is their bff. Many speak of Jesus as the person who tags along with them wherever they are going. However there is much more to Jesus.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it. There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John testifies concerning him. He cries out, saying, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’ ” From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father’s side, has made him known.” (John 1:1–18, NIV84)

Jesus is the living Word of God. Every promise that God gave in His Word is fulfilled in Jesus. Jesus as son of Man reveals the potential for each of us as we surrender to the power of the living Word of God. Jesus demonstrates the authority and the reality of the Word of God.

Jesus is and was forever and will be eternally. Jesus is God. Jesus deserves our reverence and our worship. He is the one to whom we bow down and adore. He is the one to whom we surrender our lives to. He is the one we obey.

Jesus is creator. Nothing we see or experience was made without Jesus. Jesus created you and I for a purpose. Jesus intends that His purpose for you be fulfilled. Your purpose in Christ will only be realized to the depth of your surrender to Jesus.

Jesus is life. Everything surrendered to Jesus will be transformed by the power of life and released from the power of death.

Jesus is light. Wherever Jesus is, darkness must flee. Light exposes the truth and lets us see plainly what is of God and what is of the devil.

Jesus came to be received. Jesus came to be welcomed as Lord and God into our lives. However, the decision to receive or ignore Jesus remains with us.

Jesus carries the authority to establish our identities in Him. To those who receive Jesus, our identity becomes transformed into a child of God. God is our Father. We have identity, destiny, and relationship with God because of Jesus.

Jesus came to us as one of us. Jesus wants to continually dwell with us and be a part of our lives.

Jesus is full of the glory of God. Nothing can hide the glory of Jesus.

Jesus is full of grace and of truth. Jesus’ grace empowers us to live for God. Jesus’ truth shows us what it means to live for God.

Jesus empowers us to become blessed.

In Jesus, we see God.

When we receive all that Jesus is, we empower others to see the reality and the power of God.

Do you see Jesus?
