The test of faithfulness

by Ingrid Hansen

Many people, especially Christians want and dream big dreams. People want to know that their lives are making a difference and an impact. Most of us want to know that our existence helps make the world a better place. That desire sometimes creates frustration in our lives when we realize our lives and our dreams are not the same.

God’s solution to this dilemma is faithfulness to the place you are in. Jesus taught about faithfulness in the parable of the talents. “”His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’ ” (Matthew 25:21, NIV) In fact, “A faithful man will be richly blessed. ” (Proverbs 28:20, NIV)

Faithfulness is staying the course when you want to quit. Faithfulness is carrying out your responsibilities even when it is hard and inconvenient. Faithfulness is serving more than you are asked to. Faithfulness is doing what is right even when those around you are not. Faithfulness is tested by the consistency and fidelity of your life. Faithfulness is measured by the daily decisions to obey God that span years. Faithfulness examines the whole of your life. You cannot be a faithful person when you compromise in one area of your life.

There are warnings from God for those who persist in unfaithfulness. The unfaithful will be torn from the land (Proverbs 2:22). The path of the unfaithful is difficult (Proverbs 13:15).

God is always faithful. Faithfulness is a fruit of the Spirit. If you find that there are places in your life where difficulty and unfruitfulness exist, the reason may be your unfaithfulness. Choose today to be faithful in the hard places of your life.

Do you want a better job? Be faithful in your current job.

Do you want more meaningful relationships? Be a faithful friend in the relationships you are in.

Do you want to become a leader? Be a faithful servant.

Do you want to prosper? Be a faithful giver.

Do you want greater understanding and revelation? Be faithful to obey the Word of God you have been given.

Faithfulness paves the way for greater responsibility and greater success.
