“The things you can’t measure give you the most success” Aaron Rodgers 2/7/2011 on David Letterman
You could have everything in the natural be right. You could have money and strength. You could possess great talent. However, if you lack the heart to succeed, you will not succeed.
Very few people will take the time to access the state of their heart. Very few people want to admit that they lack love. Very few will admit their bitterness. Very few want to deal with impatience. And yet, these things, that which you cannot measure will propel into success or become chains of bondage.
Our lives are a ‘race’. We compete against an enemy who wants to destroy us. We compete to fulfill our callings and our destinies. “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. ” (1 Corinthians 9:24–25, NIV)
Because of his success, Aaron Rodgers has become an example. Young people everywhere will study his character. They will look at how he trains. They will emulate his perseverance because the desire to succeed is also in them. They will pursue with their time, money and energy the pattern of Aaron Rodgers. Paul wrote also, “”Join with others in following my example, brothers, and take note of those who live according to the pattern we gave you. ” (Philippians 3:17, NIV) We are to follow his example and the example of those who also live godly lives.
Paul’s life was characterized in many places. Look at how he described himself. He had these characteristics: pure motives, apostles, speak the gospel, no flattery, no greed, no praise of men, gentle, caring, loved, share lives, considers children dear, worked for children, holy, righteous, blameless, encourages, comforts children, urges children into destiny – kingdom and glory (1 Thess 2).
How many of us will take our time, money and energy to pursue Paul’s pattern. Will we look for a Godly man or woman of God, a pastor that we can learn from? Will we become students of the Word of God and allow that Word to shape our lives? Will we spend money pursuing the excellence of God?
What about our time? Will we adjust our schedules to make more time for the Gospel? Will we sacrifice our time of relaxing to “work out” spiritually?
Aaron Rodgers is a football giant. He did not get there overnight. He greatness was established in all the ours no one looked at him. Every time Aaron Rodgers believed in what he was called to do and spent time doing it, he established greatness in him.
Where are the spiritual giants today? They are the ones who pray when no one sees. They are the faithful servants doing the tasks no one else wants to do in the church? They choose to forgive even when wronged. They love because they receive God’s love. They honor the word of God and their commitments even when it hurts. They are committed and will never look back.
