Belief does not come easy. There is not a switch we turn on and become a person who believes. Belief is the essence of who we are. How we become who we are, is always a continual process of growth.
Any place in our lives that does not line up with the Word of God is a place of unbelief. Do we struggle with despair? Are we searching for hope and joy? Is there illness in our lives instead of strength? Are the dreams we have of walking out the purposes of God finding fulfillment? Are we content? Are our relationships healthy? Do we share out faith? Do the demons flee when we wake up in the morning?
Belief and active faith establish the fullness of God in our lives. Paul wrote, “But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: ” (Romans 10:8, NIV) The Word is God. All around us, the Word is. As we surround ourselves with the Word and we begin to confess the Word, the Word begins to be established in our hearts and in our lives.
The place where the Word is not yet established in our lives is the place of unbelief. There is an answer to unbelief. “How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”” (Romans 10:14–15, NIV) The answer here, is to keep listening to those who proclaim God’s Word. We listen and we pay attention. We confess the Word. We obey the Word and soon we find belief has cast away disbelief.
I listened today to the opening remarks of the Green Bay Packers just before kickoff. Although both teams want victory, the victory will go to the one whose belief is certain and does not waver. In his remarks, he said, “There is only one thing we are thinking. We are here to win”
What one thing consumes you? Your focus determines what you become and what you believe. What you believe determines what you receive. Your focus becomes the source of your strength. Focus on God’s promises even when you struggle believing their reality. As you do, those promises will become your source of strength.
No matter happens, I believe that I am an overcomer. Therefore, I will never quit.
I believe that I am created by God to be healthy. Therefore, I will not allow sickness to rule my life.
I believe that I have a hope and a future. Therefore, although I have not arrived into my destiny, I will use this day to prepare for what I am called to do.
I believe that God loves me. Therefore, every challenge I face is only another opportunity to see the good hand of God work in my life.
I believe that I am able for forgive as I am forgiven. Therefore, there is no action any person can do that will envelop me in the bondage of bitterness.
I believe and therefore I receive!
